The governor said Detroit filed for bankruptcy over an $11 billion hole — $9 1/2 billion of that which was owed to the pension system. New Jersey, Christie said, is $52 billion behind on pension payments.
Comptroller John Liu says “pensioners as well as taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being invested and spent.”
The official said that by policing the billions of dollars spent annually with contractors, Schneiderman hopes to recover millions of dollars from those that are unscrupulous.
