The 18-month-old boy was playing on Ransom Beach in Bayville around 5 p.m. Monday when a metal fence that was leaning against the Town of Oyster Bay’s maintenance office fell on the child.
Officials are concerned runoff water from the rain could elevate bacteria levels and have closed 14 beaches along Nassau County’s north shore.
Health officials have re-opened 19 Long Island beaches that were closed on Saturday because of concerns about bacteria in the water after heavy rains.
Due to heavy rainfall, the Nassau County Department of Health has decided to close 19 beaches on Saturday for precautionary reasons. Storm water runoff can have a negative impact by elevating bacterial levels, the Nassau County Department of Health said, and can affect bathing water quality.
