Thousands Of Red Cross Volunteers Mobilize To Help Victims Of Hurricane Sandy

Those volunteers have taken to the streets in communities that were ravaged by Sandy and the Nor’Easter that followed to assist affected families in their time of need.

New Jersey Red Cross officials urged people who want to help out to not drop off goods or other material donations. Officials said they can get hard to handle and wind up actually hampering the delivery of aid.

Opinion: Sandy Reminds Us Of The Need For FEMA And That Romney Would Shut It Down

Romney was asked at a presidential debate whether FEMA should be shut down in light of the deficit. Romney replied that FEMA should “absolutely” be shut down. He was asked specifically if that included disaster relief. He replied that it was “immoral” to provide such relief in the face of “larger debts”, emphasizing that “it makes no sense at all” to have such programs.
