New York City universal pre-K begins Sept. 9, but lots of parents still haven’t registered their children.
The sign-up period began Monday. All 4-year-olds are entitled to a slot in the free program this September. The initial sign-up period ends April 24.

Out of 510 applicants, only 126 children were chosen for the first kindergarten and 1st grade classes at the College Prep charter school in Morrisania, which will be operated by the Children’s Aid Society.
