The former mayor of Roselle, New Jersey admitted Tuesday to making false statements to police, and an insurance company in a bid to cover up a hit-and-run accident.
Prosecutors say the shooting deaths of two men in Elizabeth do not appear to be connected.
Ricky Suepoi, 52, of Westfield has been charged with kidnapping, attempted sexual assault, aggravated assault and other offenses.
All three victims were taken to a hospital and were still being treated Saturday night, but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Andrew Cooke, 18, was last seen leaving his Union County home on the afternoon of April 2. He has been treated for depression and anger management in the past and is bipolar, police said.
“This appears to be a targeted event,” said Prosecutor Theodore Romankow. “There is no reason to believe at this point that other residents of the borough are in danger.”
