Rosendo ‘Rusty’ Torres
A former New York Yankees outfielder who worked as a youth baseball coach was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison for sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl during baseball practice.
The ex-ball player’s defense claimed that jurors had been pressured to change their votes to end deliberations, the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office said.
Police sources told CBS 2 the charges stem from two incidents over the last 10 days — that he exposed himself to an 8-year-old girl and inappropriately touched her.
Rosendo “Rusty” Torres wasn’t a household name when he played two years for the Yankees back in the 1970s, but everyone knows him in one Massapequa neighborhood, and they can’t believe he’s being accused of sexually abusing a child.
