Disgraced former State Senator Pedro Espada Jr. is finally going to jail for using money from his Bronx health clinics to fund a lavish lifestyle.
Espada is accused of embezzling more than $500,000 from the Soundview Health Clinic in the Bronx, which Espada founded.
Six of the 12 jurors sent a note to the judge Wednesday saying one of the jurors decided within the first 10 minutes of their meeting that he or she would not deliberate.
Sources inside Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration said that an investigation by the office of the Medicaid inspector general have turned up repeated violations of law that could deprive Soundview Health Clinics of all Medicaid funding.
It was at the FBI headquarters Wednesday that Bronx Senator Pedro Espada Jr. and his son, Pedro G. Espada, surrendered to face embezzlement and conspiracy charges.
The Democrat, who lost his fall re-election bid, and his son Pedro Gautier Espada are accused of taking money from Comprehensive Community Development Corp.
