The New Jersey Senate has voted to roll back a planned highway toll increase. Democrats said the increase shouldn’t go forward because it was meant to help pay for a new rail tunnel into New York that won’t be built.
The bill reduces the maximum fine for driving without a license, registration or insurance card if the driver can prove he or she was legal at the time of the stop.
The Senate Transportation Committee on Thursday voted 3-2 to cancel toll hikes on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway that begin next year.
