Angelina Jolie scared up $69.4 million over the weekend for Disney’s “Maleficent,” trouncing the other new wide-release, Seth MacFarlane’s comic Western “A Million Ways to Die in the West.” The Universal comedy opened with $16.8 million.
A poised, smiling Anne Hathaway accepted the Academy Award For Best Supporting Actress on Sunday night for her role in Les Miserables. Christoph Waltz earned his second supporting-actor Oscar for “Django Unchained.”
“His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh,” the producers said in a statement. MacFarlane called the opportunity “an overwhelming privilege.”
