Police are investigating after human remains were found off a nature trail on Long Island.
Police responded to the apartment on 15th Avenue in Borough Park around 5 p.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call of a foul odor.
The one clue police are hoping will help identify the victim is a 24 karat gold pig pendant necklace.
It’s been 10 months since Lauren Spierer disappeared. The 20-year-old was last seen on June 3, 2011 after a night out with friends in Bloomington where she went to school.
Police say they are resuming their investigation on Saturday after the skeletal remains were found around 6:30 p.m. near a county park off Wading River Road.
Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel said the remains were collected by the county medical examiner’s office and will be sent to forensic anthropologists for further examination and testing.
