In the wake of a report indicating that accidents had actually increased at two New Jersey intersections with red light cameras, the mayor of South Plainfield has said it is time for the cameras to go.
Asked about the $100 all-weather boots Officer Larry DePrimo gave him, Jeffrey Hillman said he has hidden them because “they are worth a lot of money.”
Christopher Jefferson, 5, Tyler Davis, 7, Alize Jefferson, 12, Elijah Taylor, 2, and their grandmother, 62-year-old Ann Jefferson, all died in the Feb. 23 blaze.
Natalie Jefferson is still trying to grapple with the loss of most of her family. It was early last Thursday when she awoke to find her side of a two-family home in smoke and flames.
While authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fast-moving blaze, the owner of the home, Gerado Avalos, said he inspected the home in October and all the detectors were operable.
Police say they want to question a man who lived in the two-family home and hasn’t been seen since the blaze. Police have stressed that the man they are looking to speak to is not a suspect.
Killed in the fire were 62-year-old Ann Jefferson and four of her grandchildren: 2-year-old Elijah, 3-year-old Christopher, 12-year-old Alize and 7-year-old Tyler.
A former East Orange police officer has admitted setting fire to his personal vehicle last year to defraud his auto insurance company.
Authorities say a New Jersey man was drunk when he drove on railroad tracks and left his passenger before a freight train hit the vehicle.
