A major hospital’s former pharmacy chief stole nearly 200,000 oxycodone pills from the medical center over more than five years and has been charged under a state drug-kingpin law, narcotics prosecutors said Tuesday.
You would have no way of knowing, but drug dealers have moved in and are running multi-million-dollar heroin operations in some of the area’s upscale neighborhoods.
Dr. Robert Gibbs was arraigned on charges that he supplied the head of a narcotics trafficking ring, Ronald Vaughan, with 700 prescriptions for oxycodone, amounting to 130,000 pills, according to prosecutors.
Witnesses testified that prescription painkiller abuse has become a major multimillion dollar drug epidemic in the city.
