St. Mark’s Bookshop
The St. Mark’s Bookshop in the East Village has announced plans for a fundraiser for a move to a cheaper space a few blocks east, according to a published report.
The independent bookstore had planned to close its doors due to a rent hike by landlord, Cooper Union, but it received a reprieve after Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer intervened.
For 35 years the St. Mark’s Bookshop has been serving the community. But now, a bad economy may close the book on the neighborhood treasure.
