Bail remains at $1 million for the New Jersey man whose murder conviction for pushing his wife off the cliffs at the Palisades in 1992 was overturned.
Stephen Scharf’s original defense lawyer, said during the trial in 2011, he objected to the hearsay testimony of some of the witnesses. A three-judge appellate panel has now agreed.
It was the summer of 1992 when Scharf and his wife, Jody Ann, came to a spot near a cliff in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., to talk about their troubled marriage. But within minutes, Jody Ann would fall 120 feet to her death.
