The plot of land known for a decade as “the pile,” “the pit” and “Ground Zero” is opening to the public for the first time since that terrible morning in 2001

Ground Zero Workers Mark Another 9/11 Anniversary

Monday marks the ninth anniversary of the formal end of the recovery operation at Ground Zero, which concluded in 2002 with a ceremony to remove the last 65-ton column of steel still standing at the site.
