Follow a walk through the Financial Distract with drinks at this dimly-lit speakeasy, a haven for whiskey and wine lovers in a neighborhood filled with pubs. Offering more than 100 whiskeys available by one- or two-ounce pours (as well as in cocktails) and more than 80 wines to taste, Vintry focuses on artisanal producers. Small plates like ricotta gnocchi and lobster-stuffed mushrooms will keep you and dad from getting too sloppy.

This Scottish gastropub has been a charming addition to the West Village’s drinking and dining scene since 2009. Come early to snag a barstool and sip the selection of single malts and blended whiskeys and cocktails like the Blood and Sand (Glenlivet 12 year, Cherry Heering, orange juice, lemon juice and bitters). And if dad’s a fan of hearty fare, settle in for dishes such as wild mushroom shepherd’s pie or beef wellington.

No bar will make your father feel quite as luxurious and classically New York as The Campbell Apartment. Formerly the private salon of ’20s financier John W. Campbell, this cocktail lounge in a quiet corner of Grand Central boasts rich woodwork, a beamed ceiling and an oversized fireplace. Settle into a plush red sofa and sip scotch or Prohibiton-style cocktails. Just be sure to dress nice–tennis shoes and jeans are not allowed.

Oozing with masculinity, this bar and a few sidecars or mint juleps will help dad unwind in no time. Warning: if neither of you are smokers, this is not the bar for you–cigarettes are smoked here as well.
