Work off your Thanksgiving Day stupor by taking a walking tour, shimmying to folk songs, or watching your first tree lighting ceremony of the season. Herewith, our picks for the best in eating, drinking, and merrymaking this weekend. By Jessica Allen.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art kicked off the holiday season on Tuesday Nov. 25, with its Christmas tree display. The huge candlelit spruce would be draw enough, but it's decorated with more than 200 18th-century crèche figures, including people, animals, and angels, which form a Neapolitan Nativity scene. Tuesday, November 25, through Tuesday, January 6, suggested donation, museum admission required.

It happens every year: you stuff yourself silly on Thanksgiving and go to bed claiming you'll never eat again. And, yet, come Friday, you're somehow ready for more. During the Post-Thanksgiving Ethnic Eating Tour, you'll nosh your way around the Lower East Side, sampling bites from the Italian, Chinese, Jewish, and Dominican communities that live in the area. The talented dancers of the New York City Ballet will transport you from a theater in Midtown to the wonderland where toys come alive, mice have kings, fairies fly about, and hearts are moved. Since 1993, the African Diaspora International Film Festival has sought to "present [an array of innovative] films to diverse audiences, redesign the Black cinema experience, and strengthen the role of African and African descent directors in contemporary world cinema," featuring movies by "emerging and established filmmakers of color." Highlights this year include a celebration of 20 years of democracy in South Africa. Friday, November 28, through Saturday, December 13, see schedule for details, tickets start at $12.

This annual concert features folk legend Arlo Guthrie and his family singing such favorites as "Alice's Restaurant Massacree." For more than 40 years, Guthrie has performed at Carnegie Hall over Thanksgiving weekend, bringing his beloved satire, commentary, comedic asides, songs, and spirit. As he explains on his Facebook page, he was born with "a guitar in one hand and a harmonica in the other." Saturday, November 29, 8 pm, tickets start at $12.50, tickets required.
