The Metropolitan Museum of Art kicked off the holiday season on Tuesday Nov. 25, with its Christmas tree display. The huge candlelit spruce would be draw enough, but it's decorated with more than 200 18th-century crèche figures, including people, animals, and angels, which form a Neapolitan Nativity scene. Tuesday, November 25, through Tuesday, January 6, suggested donation, museum admission required.
It happens every year: you stuff yourself silly on Thanksgiving and go to bed claiming you'll never eat again. And, yet, come Friday, you're somehow ready for more. Since 1993, the African Diaspora International Film Festival has sought to "present [an array of innovative] films to diverse audiences, redesign the Black cinema experience, and strengthen the role of African and African descent directors in contemporary world cinema," featuring movies by "emerging and established filmmakers of color." This annual concert features folk legend Arlo Guthrie and his family singing such favorites as "Alice's Restaurant Massacree." For more than 40 years, Guthrie has performed at Carnegie Hall over Thanksgiving weekend, bringing his beloved satire, commentary, comedic asides, songs, and spirit.
