5 Best Spring Charity Events In NYC

There are plenty of ways to give back to your community. This spring, attend one of these fantastic charity events and help the many men, women, and children in need right here in New York City. By Carly Petrone.

Attend The New York Pops biggest night of the year at Carnegie Hall. Get your ticket to their 32nd Birthday Gala that is bringing together some of the biggest names from the stage and screen. Music Director Steven Reineke will lead a concert highlighting the work of Music Honorees Kathleeen Marshall and Rob Marshall. Enjoy performances by Queen Latifah, Laura Benanti, Alan Cummings, Bebe Neuwirth, Kelli O'Hara, Victor Garber, and many more. The gala concert will also feature students from The New York Pops' Kids on Stage program, Children of Ronald McDonald House New York, and Camp Broadway Kids. Honorary Co-Chairs of this event include Sarah Jessica Parker, Catherine Zeta Jones, Matthew Broderick, and Renee Fleming. All proceeds go toward supports The New York Pops educational programs, which serve thousands of kids throughout New York City every year. Concert tickets range from $65-$160 and full gala tickets range from $1,250 to $50,000. Concert starts at 7 p.m. and black tie dinner dance immediately following the performance at the Mandarin Oriental New York.

Honor New York's fallen first responders and raise funds for the families they left behind during The Red & Blue Soiree, happening on May 19th. Many may know it as The Answer the Call event, a semi-formal gala that takes place every year to help raise money for The New York Police & Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund. Enjoy the beautiful spring weather with cocktails and music along The Empire Hotel rooftop from 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. Dance to music by DJ Raffael Deluca, nibble on hors d'oeuvres, and sip on drinks during the three-hour open bar. Special guests include Mark Messier and SNL's Colin Jost and honorary chairs include Allison Williams and Bridget Moynahan. General admission tickets are $150, Current First Responder General Admission Tickets are $100, and Chair Package tickets (includes 2 VIP tickets) are $1,000.

Join the Easter Seals New York at the black-tie optional The Power of Hope Gala on May 8th. Help support their mission to ensure that every child with a disability or returning veteran has an equal opportunity to live, learn, work, and play in their communities. Lynda Baquero (NBC 4 New York Consumer Reporter) will be the emcee for the evening while special guests Dra Candida Montilla de Medina (First Lady of the Dominican Republic) and Loree Sutton (winner of the Edgar F. Allen Political Service Award) will also be in attendance. There will be dining, dancing, music by solo violinist Nyke and DJ Dan Wesler, as well as magic by magician Kevin Nicholas. There will also be an unveiling of the custom-built Inca Kola/Easter Seals Vets Count Chopper. Gala begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails, following by entertainment at 7 p.m. tickets range from $100-$750 (table prices also available). See website for more details.

The NYC Chapter for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man & Woman of the Year annual 10-week fundraiser is in full swing and there are many ways to get involved. Every dollar donated counts as one vote and the titles are awarded to the man and woman with the most votes at the end of 10 weeks. Discover the 16 NYC candidates at the Strike Out Cancer event happening on May 17th from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Grab your friends and play a few rounds of bowling, ping-pong, or pool at Lucky Strike Manhattan to help raise money to fight cancer. There will be great music and fabulous prizes raffled off – it's a great way to spend $40. The winner will be announced at the black tie gala happening on June 4th at Capitale. Keep May 7th open because the BRC (Bowery Residents' Committee) is raising money to help break the cycle of homelessness.
