A Guide To 2013 MLB All-Star Week In New York

The last time the MLB All-Star Game came to the Big Apple was back in 2008, during the final season at the old Yankee Stadium -- but it's been much longer since Queens played host to the time-honored tradition. In fact, the All-Star Game hasn't been played at the home of the Mets since Shea Stadium's inaugural season in 1964. But that all changes next week, when the event comes to Citi Field for the first time, with days full of festivities set to culminate in the 84th MLB All-Star Game. The Big Apple is getting decked out in celebration, with 35 MLB-themed "All-Star Apple" statues appearing at notable city landmarks. We've highlighted some of the week's best events, along with ticket information, below. Wright, who was the runner-up in the 2006 Home Run Derby, has 13 home runs on the season, and his 217 career home runs rank third on the Mets' all-time list behind Strawberry (252) and Mike Piazza (204). The event will raise funds for Boys & Girls Clubs of America and MLB's Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program. All these events lead up to the 2013 MLB All-Star Game. Wright and Cano will start the game, and pitchers Matt Harvey and Mariano Rivera are also on the squads. "Getting a little taste of what an All-Star Game is like in New York, playing in the Bronx a few years ago, it's revved up," Wright said. "It's above and beyond, and that's no offense to other All-Star Game hosts, but there's nothing that's comparable to playing in an All-Star Game in New York. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
