Nika and Bianca are both fashionistas living in New York City. Nika works as a fashion merchandiser and Bianca -- covering more of the beauty end -- studies the art of fashion design. Both enjoy roaming the Big Apple in search of its hidden gems. And while Bianca enjoys drawing to create fashion designs of her own as she sits among the beauty of Central Park, Nika views the city streets as her own personal fashion runway to strut her high-style heels upon. Below are five of their tips to stay on trend in New York City this summer.

Delicate fabrics

With a love for anything that celebrates being ultra feminine, Nika gives this tip: delicate fabrics that are light, flowing, easy; and loose fitting silhouettes in muted and pastel shades are certainly on trend for the summer. Because these fabrics are easy to wear, while also being light and fashionable, this trend is perfect for the on-the-go New Yorker. Designers Simone Rocha, Valentino, Alberta Ferretti and Chloe are all pulling inspiration from this trend this summer.

Sports Inspired

Nika points out New York City loves the sports-inspired trend for an always active lifestyle. Now, designers are using it by taking a refined, luxe approach to athletic shapes and giving them a sleek and chic twist. In trend for the summer are slouchy silhouettes with oversized totes, cutout silhouettes and Adidas Stan Smith with overalls. The sports-inspired fashions allow one to be stylish while being comfortable and effortlessly chic. Designers inspiring this trend include Bottega Veneta, Christopher Kane and Balenciaga.

Mix And Match

This summer is sure to be bright in New York City with unexpected mixes of patterns and colors back in style. Adding elements of the unexpected is perfect for New York City. Eclectic, unexpected combinations of prints and textures in varied colors that are quirky and fun allows people to think out of the box and be creative with their fashion. "New York City loves this trend because as one of the fashion capitals in the world, we love the element of unexpected innovation in fashion," Nika said. This diverse trend has been motivated by designers Margiela, Marni, Proenza Schouler, Dries Van Noten and Stella McCartney.

Playful Textures

Textures such as feathers, fur, fringe, tassels, and ruffles are being incorporated in many designs this summer. "These make the outfit more interesting because the difference of movement compared to the rest of the outfit adds femininity," Bianca said. This trend shows true creativity allowing New Yorkers to put their own twist on fashion to show who they personally are. Valentino, Paul Smith and Monique Lhullier are designers who have inspired this trend.

BoHo Chic

The hipster look in New York City promotes a lot of interesting patterns, cut outs and stylish necklaces as Bianca explains. With New York City's free spirit personality, long flowing flowery hippy dresses along with statement gladiators will be seen as a big trend this summer. The Boho fashion has been inspired by designers Chloe, Emilio Pucci and Vera Wang.
