5 Best Florists In Brooklyn

Not surprisingly, the best florists in Brooklyn go way beyond sticking some baby's breath against some roses, wrapping everything in paper, and calling it a bouquet. Instead, these spots let you sip whiskey while you browse, pick up a few cans of aerosol along with your peonies, or simply showcase the attention to whimsy and creativity for which the borough is best known. We can't say it any better than Chrysanthemum's website: this shop is a "lifestyle destination . . . where you can take a class, have your fortune told, or experience the Chinese Tea Ceremony." The flowers on offer are freshly cut, locally sourced, seasonally appropriate, and artfully arranged according to the principles of feng shui. As for the tea, you'll sip cups of whole-leaf tea brewed or selected by the resident tea master.

This ain't your daddy's florist, unless your daddy's into skateboards, funky T-shirts, ironic prints, and/or spray paint. The name might be a holdover from the store's past life as a bodega, but the store itself is au courant. Just walking around will increase your cool factor by at least 12-fold. The flowers are fresh and seasonal and unique, and custom arrangements are available for your special occassion.

Rebecca Shepherd Floral Design is open by appointment only. But don't let that deter you. A visit to this Park Slope workshop will inspire you to new heights of fancy and floral design—indeed many of the bouquets made on site feature such non-flowers as feathers and berries, with an emphasis on contrasts and textures. This isn't where to come for a bouquet for that special someone, but it's where you'll want to go for major events like a wedding.

We can't walk around Sprout Home in Williamsburg without leaving with our arms full. The focus of this store, as well as its companion store in Chicago, is gardening. The friendly folks will gladly help you achieve the garden of your dreams and/or help you decorate your gala, wedding, or party. The on-site floral bar also features single arrangements, so you can pop in for a pick-me-up or nosegay for that special someone, including, of course, yourself.

Is it a bar? Is it a flower shop? Yes, and yes. Sycamore, in Ditmas Park, lets you sip while you sniff, imbibe while you browse. The bar focuses on American whiskeys and craft beers, while the flower shop specializes in flowers by the stem and one-of-a-kind bouquets. There's also a year-round garden swaddled in ivy. Check the website for a roster of events, including various tastings (of the booze, not the flora).
