While most New Yorkers hate anything that comes from Boston (OK, maybe just the Red Sox), that's certainly not the case of this Beantown ice-cream staple. Now in the Big Apple, Emack & Bolio's serves up delicious and funky flavors like Grasshopper Pie (Crème de Menthe Liqueur, Oreo cookies and chocolate flakes) and Twisted Dee-Light, an ode to rocker Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. In fact, peace, love, rock & roll and ice cream is what E&B's is all about. E&B's "smokin' flavors" are named after rockers and their hit songs, including the "Red Hot Vanilla" — vanilla ice cream with red hot candies for Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Deep Purple Cow — black raspberry ice cream with white and dark chocolate chips (yum!) for Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple. They also serve smoothies, frozen yogurt and microbrewed soda. All of their non-fat products are certified Kosher.

If it sounds fancy, that's because it is. This upscale shop knows gelato, and it should since it is the brainchild of Ciao Bella founder Jon Snyder (who also happened to work in his grandparent's Westchester Carvel store as a kid). Snyder, a mad gelato scientist of sorts, concocts more than 200 flavors in his Lower East Side "lab" including cheddar cheese, chestnut honey, tarragon pink pepper, wasabi (if you dare) basil, avocado and lemon verbena — to name a few. If you like gelato and love interesting and daring flavors, you need to visit this place. No need to worry, there are more traditional flavors too like banana, chocolate chocolate chip, blueberry and mango.

If you like gelato (Italy's version of ice cream), you will love Ciao Bella. Creamy, light and delicious, with tantalizing flavors like hazelnut, dulce de leche and key lime graham (our personal fave), Ciao Bella has something for just about everyone. Check out their amazing seasonal flavors too, like roasted hazelnut, triple espresso and matcha green tea -- also available in pints to take home too!

Founded in 1998 by two brothers from Argentina, this West Village ice cream shop has been turning heads for more than a decade—partly because of the floor-to-ceiling windows, but mostly because of the unique flavors offered, including corn ice cream and Johnnie Walker ice cream—yes an ice cream with scotch. Cones is one stop shopping for all of your cravings! Try the blueberry sorbet— you will love it as much as we do. Cash only.

Anything that has ice cream factory in its name has to be good right? Well, it isn't good—it's great! People from all of the world flock to this Chinatown staple to sample the homemade delights inspired by the Far East. Flavors range from almond cookie, Lychee (Chinese fruit), black sesame, peanut butter and jelly, to coffee brandy and mint chip. If you want to tantalize your taste buds and soothe your soul, try the Zen—butter (like peanut butter, but better!). Peace.

If you've never been to a Cold Stone Creamery, you are missing out on one of life's great pleasures: Ice cream with mix-ins (fruit, nuts, candy or combos of all three folded into the ice cream of your choice)! Cold Stone literally has more than 11 million "creations" to choose from--but we suggest "Birthday Cake Remix" — cake batter ice cream with rainbow sprinkles, brownies and fudge, and "The Pie Who Loved Me" — cheesecake ice cream, OREO cookies, graham cracker pie crust and fudge. OK, my mouth is watering.

Gelato straight from Italy? It's hard to imagine anything better. Grom's first shop opened in Turin in 2003, and since then has expanded all over Italy and the world! Grom uses the original recipes of Italian gelato makers to have the freshest and highest-quality gelato. The flavors, which vary by month, use a moderate amount of cream to remain low-fat and are certified gluten-free.
