Spring is a wonderful time to enjoy the abundance of festivals New York City has to offer. After winter seemed like it would never end, the delightful springtime weather begs for everyone to come out of hibernation for fun New York City festivities. Whether you appreciate the arts, are a foodie, or are just seeking a great day out, there is an abundance of festivals to choose from to please all searching for a exciting day out.

The Ninth Avenue International Food Festival

Taking place on May 16 and 17, The Ninth Avenue International Food Festival promises to feed any foodie's desires. This festival is the oldest, as well as the largest, ongoing New York City food festival. Food from around the world is featured, including an exciting "Food Truck Park" that includes a multitude of NYC restaurants. After indulging, enjoy browsing the art booths and share in the fun with the kids taking part in the rides, games and attractions. To top off this wonderful festival, there is live stage entertainment.

The World Science Festival is a citywide event taking place from May 27 until May 31, culminating with an event in Washington Square Park and the surrounding area. Originally started in 2008, the week-long festival aims to bring together the world of science with the arts, for all to have fun learning and participating. Mixing debates with interactive excitement and theatrical and musical performances, the festival aims to take science out of the lab and into New York City neighborhoods. The activities take place on streets, parks, museums, galleries and the top performing arts venues that New York City is famous for.

Sunday, May 10 welcomes all to Central Park's Band Shell to enjoy a free day of festivities celebrating the values of Japan. Tents will be set up for family-friendly Japanese activities, and free samples of wonderful Japanese cuisine will be on hand. An art contest will announce winners who pre-submitted artwork. Music will be in the air as well as part of the celebration of the wonderful Japanese culture.

Famous for the arts, what would New York City be without a festival to celebrate them? Theater for New York City aims to open up the art world to all with The Lower East Side Festival of the Arts. This has become a yearly three-day festival over Memorial Day Weekend to celebrate the vast range of artistic offerings that New York City is known for. Over 100 Lower East Side performance groups participate in this cabaret-style event honoring all cultures. Saturday brings with it a fun street fair event on East 10th Street filled with delicious food and local merchant offerings, along with an array of performances by local talent. Poetry, music and performance art is all staged to enjoy. Local schools join in performing a children's program. In addition the event includes its own film festival as well. The Lower East Side Festival of the Arts seeks to bring the community together and to bring out new talented New Yorkers.

Sunday, May 17 from noon until 6 p.m. have fun celebrating in the beautiful outdoors with this free festival at "Brooklyn's largest waterfront celebration." Food, activities and entertainment will be on hand to keep all entertained. The All Community Arts 50th Annual Fine Arts & Crafts Show takes place at Emmons & Ocean Avenue from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Participate in the special raffle for a chance to win four tickets to Walt Disney World.
