Best Things To Do In New York City This Weekend

Is there another city in the world that's offering you the chance to check out new cars, get into a pillow fight, and don your fanciest Easter topper for a stroll down Fifth Avenue this weekend? We doubt it. But you can do all this and more on Saturday and Sunday in New York. By Jessica Allen.

Even if you're not in the market for a new set of wheels, there's no harm in looking, right? The International Auto Show is the largest car show in North America. Another fun fact: the first auto show debuted in New York in 1900. Since then, it's helped launch thousands of inventions and innovations. As you walk around, you'll be able to eyeball just about every model and make of car currently being sold in the U.S. Friday, April 3, through Sunday, April 12, 10 am to 10 pm, $16, tickets required.

Yea! Smorgasburg returns for the season this weekend. If you haven't been to this food market run by the folks behind Brooklyn Flea, you should go. It's amazing! On Saturdays, Smorgasburg takes place rain or shine at East River State Park; on Sundays, it migrates, weather-be-damned, to Brooklyn Bridge Park (Pier 5). Lots of chatter this year about Best Buds Burritos. . . . Saturday, April 4, and Sunday, April 5, from 11 am to 6 pm, food and drink prices vary.

Rekindle the excitement of Easter egg hunts of your youth at the Amazing Easter Egg Hunt. Remember how much fun it would be to find the multicolored eggs? This hunt is even better, because it's also an obstacle course. Clues, requiring you to use both brains and brawn, will take you around the city. You can register as part of a team, or be assigned to one on the day of. There's a hunt for adults and a separate one for families. Saturday, April 4, see schedule for details, $25, tickets required.

You don't need to wear your jammies to participate in the seventh annual International Pillow Fight, although we suppose doing so does up your authenticity. At any rate, you'll need to bring a soft pillow you don't mind hitting friends and strangers with. Maybe a pair of goggles too. The after party's at a warehouse in Bushwick, if you want to continue the fun. Best of all: the used pillows get donated to area homeless shelters. Saturday, April 4, 3 pm, free.

At the annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival, you'll see hats like you've never seen dome-toppers before. What began as an opportunity for society ladies to strut their stuff in the 19th century has morphed into a milliner's, and an artist's, paradise. The more creative your head gear, the better. Don't expect floats, motorcades, or even an Easter bunny. This event is more about wandering around, seeing and being seen. Sunday, April 5, from about 10 am to 4 pm, free.
