Kehinde Wiley was born in Los Angeles, but has made New York City his home. One of his more significant pieces is "Napoleon Leading the Army Over the Alps," a 2005 piece, based off of Jacques-Louis David's 1801 portrait, "Bonaparte Crossing the Alps." Wiley's version features a young black man posed as Napoleon -- a testament to Wiley's message and style. Wiley is currently touring his new exhibition, "A New Republic," which was featured the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2016.
