N.J.'s 5 Best Family Halloween Activities

Though it's a favorite among kids, Halloween is a time that everyone in the family can enjoy. Rather than just taking your little ghouls and goblins trick or treating this year, check out these spooky family-centered Halloween events taking place across New Jersey in the month of October. Starting in late October, your family can experience a fun tour of the historic city of Burlington on their Walk with the Ghosts Tours. Visit the Burlington sites and meet with ghost characters from U.S. History, including Ben Franklin, Ulysses S. Grant as well as Blackbeard's pirates and witches from the Colonial past. Learn how Burlington City, NJ played a key role in the shaping of America's past.

Goblins in the Garden Family Festival

The Camden Children's Garden, located right next to the Children's Aquarium, will be hosting their annual Goblins in the Garden festival. Arrive in costume for an endless amount of family activities, such as the Haunted Train Ride, haunted garden maze, trick or treating, costume parade and other educational family activities where your children can learn about Halloween traditions and the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration.

Bring your flashlight so you and your family can explore the giant night time corn maze. Though you'll make your way through the maze in the dark, don't fear, this is a family friendly even, so there is nothing spooky hidden in the corn walls! The fun doesn't end once you've completed the maze—hop on the hayride for a tour of the farm or pick your own pumpkins by flashlight. There will be both hot and cold refreshments available, and make your own s'mores kits over the open campfire.

This family fest will feature all the great Halloween activities your kids will love! Face painting and pumpkin painting/carving will take place, followed by make your own scare crow and other kid's games, like a cow milking contest. Puppet and magic shows will keep the Halloween spirit alive alone with mini hay bale mazes. Each year, the large corn maze has a varying theme—this year, it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic; keep this in mind as you wander through the maze to help answer the quiz trail questions!

Catapult ripe pumpkins through the air at Highland's Last Fling Pumpkin Sling! Teams are compiled throughout the year for the highly anticipated event where they load the trebuchets and launch pumpkins towards unspeakable heights. Throwing distances are calculated and measured for competitions and records. You and your family will love the fun ensued and the many vendors and food on site.
