National Dog Day: NYC Pet Celebrations, Adoption Events

August 26th is National Dog Day! Spoil your pooch by throwing a pup-friendly cocktail party, enjoy a discounted stay at a hotel in the heart of the city, or adopt a dog for free. There are plenty of ways to celebrate. By Carly Petrone.

Have you been toying around with the idea of adopting a dog? What better way to celebrate #nationaldogday than by taking home a pooch of your own for free. Yep, between August 26 – 28, Gilt will cover the cost of dog adoptions for the first 20 approved adopters during a puppy party hosted with North Shore Animal League America. The event will go from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Saks OFF 5th. Guests can play with pups, adopt beloved new pets, and shop stylish doggie must-haves. Already a Gilt member? Head over to Loews Regency Hotel for their National Dog Day celebration. Bring your favorite furry friend to their annual Yappy Hour from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Owners can sip on complimentary cocktails, courtesy of Sant Ambroeus, while the dogs themselves can enjoy special puppyccinos and treats. Stick around for the silent auction, where all proceeds go to benefit the New York Bully Crew -- an NYC non-profit that specializes in rescuing pit bulls and bully breeds.
