Up until very recently being plus-sized meant being doomed to a wardrobe of big-eyed puppy sweatshirts and floral print everything. Thankfully, someone got the memo that curvier girls love clothes too. If there is one thing New York has, it is plenty of boutiques. If you’re looking to stock your closet with original styles, high-end fashion or adorable vintage wares, look no further. Here are some of the best plus-size boutiques New York City has to offer. Small but powerful – that’s how to describe this tiny Brooklyn boutique. Once you’re inside, you’ll recognize it from TLC’s What Not to Wear, which featured this small boutique. Lisa (Lee Lee), the store’s owner is usually around somewhere and can double as a personal stylis … she knows her inventory inside out and can point you in the direction of the perfect ensemble. The shop caters to women sizes sizes 10 to 28.

Ever noticed that everything even moderately adorable in vintage clothing shops is made for someone built like Twiggy? The style mavens at Re/Dress have solved that problem by creating a thrift shop that specializes in the size 14 and up crowd.

This shop is straight-up sex appeal. If you’re looking for a slinky cocktail dress, or colorful statement piece, this is the place to go. This woman knows how to show off your curves. Now, anyone can purchase Monif’s designs online, but her only brick-n-mortar store is right here in New York City.

This high-end retailer is actually a world-wide chain, originally from Italy, that designs classic, stylish clothing for women sizes 10-22. These clothes are a bit on the pricier end, but they are beautiful and well tailored.

Of course there are great plus-sized lines at department stores like: Saks, Nordstrom’s and Bloomingdale’s, but for that personal touch nothing beats a boutique.
