The big day may be behind us, but those Christmas cookies still taste delicious well into the New Year. The 2011 holiday brought some quality treats to the Big Apple. Here are our five favorite Christmas cookies. By Sherry Mazzocchi.

The Nutcracker From Eleni's New York
This nut-free bakery is known for baking up tributes to holidays and all things pop culture – their royal wedding gift boxes were a big hit last April, and they’re currently selling Breaking Dawn themed treats in honor of the newest Twilight flick. For Christmas, the crew at Eleni’s went all out. There are more than a few gift sets offered, including Twas The Night Before Christmas, based on the holiday classic and Spruced Up, brightly iced Christmas tree sugar cookies. Our personal favorite is the Nutcracker gift box ($125), featuring cookies shaped like decorated nutcrackers, trees, wreaths and ballet slippers.
Peppermint Cornflake Chocolate Chip From Momofuku

Union Square Holiday Market
While the Momofuku Milk Bar Cornflake Cookies appear to have a cult-like following in the Big Apple, this Christmas edition can only be found at the Union Square Holiday Market. The exclusive Peppermint Cornflake Chocolate Chip cookie can’t be purchased individually – but that’s okay, cause you’ll likely want more than one. Buy them via half-dozen tins for $12 a pop.

Bacon Smack From Milk & Cookies
Okay, so maybe it’s not holiday themed – but it surely is a gift. The “Bacon Smack” from this New York City cookie staple is a heavenly combination of maple syrup, candied Neuskes, cherry wood smoked bacon, dried cranberries, dark chocolate chunks, toffee and graham cracker pieces. Christmas is a time for indulgence, right?

Just Gingerbread from Amy's Cookies
Simple and sweet, these Brooklyn-born gingerbread men have been called some of the best seasonal cookies in New York City ($40 for 24 cookies). Additionally, this artisanal bakery has beautiful dreidel shaped cookies for Chanukkah plus an entirely edible winter wonderland of snowflake, reindeer and Santa cookies.

Ornament Cookies From One Tough Cookie
One Tough Cookie’s Christmas treats – vanilla and chocolate sugar cookies – can also double as ornaments for your tree. The sweets are so intricately designed that they’re almost too pretty to eat. One bite in, however, and we’re guessing that won’t be a problem. Their baked goods are done completely by custom request, and prices vary upon order. If you have an image in your head of a special one-of-a-kind design, send pastry chef Gail your drawings and doodles. She’ll turn your dreams into an elegant cookie reality.

New York has the best of everything! Of course all of these Christmas cookies look absolutely delicious! Before the season’s over, we hope to try each and every one! We’re surprised to not see Levain’s on the Upper West Side included here, but then again their cookies are amazing no matter the time of the year!
