A Brooklyn staple, Four & Twenty Blackbirds prides itself in using local, seasonal apples in their popular Salted Caramel Apple Pie. “The longer the fruit stays on the tree to ripen the better,” co-owner Emily Elsen told CBSNewYork. Made with homemade sea salt caramel, allspice, cinnamon, black or white pepper, Angosturra bitters, butter, flower, salt, brown and white sugar, the pie’s sweet consistency has customers coming back for more. “We hope that everyone who comes through our door relaxes, enjoys a slice and has a better day because of it,” Elsen said.

This is the ideal indulgence for a chilly weekend brunch. Sweet Melissa’s Caramel Apple Bread Pudding is made from the bakery’s own croissants, brioche and baguettes. The breads are cubed and lightly toasted so that they are a bit dry and able to soak up as much of the luxurious vanilla creme brulee base as possible. Caramelized granny smith apples are layered in the center and the bread pudding is then slowly baked in a hot water bath to ensure gentle even cooking, and that the custard stays creamy. Topped with a caramel rum raisin sauce over a warm slice of bread pudding.
