The General’s bakery is brand new, and the trendy eatery is taking doughnuts to a whole new level. Chef Thiago Silva combines two breakfast staples to whip up cereal-inspired doughnuts in flavors like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs and our favorite, Fruity Pebbles. The store’s marble counter top might be from the 1960’s, but the donuts are always fresh. Home of the classic New York doughnut, the Donut Pub is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Customers can rely on finding racks of just-baked plain, chocolate, glazed, jelly, and creme filled donuts at anytime of day or night. We prefer the Honey Dip, one of Donut Pub’s best sellers.

While the flavors are constantly rotating (check their website for the current flavors), Doughnut Plant makes three types daily: yeast, cake and filled. The Doughnut Plant strives for tasty originality with flavors like creme brulee, lavendar and pistachio. Not settling for regular round shapes, their jelly and creme filled varieties are square.
Sweet Potato Doughnuts, The Red Rooster

This upscale Harlem eatery takes comfort food to a new level. These doughnuts are probably more of a dessert option than a breakfast fix. Fried mini sweet potato doughnuts are dished up hot in a fry basket. Sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, they’re served with a side of whipped cream and cool lemon sorbet.
Chocolate Hazelnut, Wonder City Coffee & Donut Bar
277 East 10th St.
Come early for these doughnuts, made each morning in small batches at Wonder City at The Brindle Room, a chic East Village bistro. But they sell out fast — and it’s no wonder. Their powdered, chocolate hazelnut and caramel creations are made with mashed potatoes. Surprisingly light, they are crunchy on the outside, but chewy on the inside.
Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwich, Holey Cream

Holey Cream is a tiny shop that Paula Deen would love. Why do we love them? Because Holey Cream has perfected the doughnut ice cream sandwich. Customers pick icing flavors (chocolate or vanilla) and add up to three flavors of ice cream. Favorite flavors include dulce de leche, red velvet and coffee mud pie. And don’t forget the gummy bear topping.
