New York City might be the concrete jungle, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of opportunities to give back and go green. Each year, the world comes together to learn new and innovative ways to keep our planet green through fun activities for all ages — and the Big Apple is no exception. Where will you celebrate the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day?
Check Out ‘Earth Day New York’ Celebrations
Grand Central Terminal & Union Square
Three days of Earth Day celebrations will take place at Grand Central Terminal and Union Square — both venues boast long histories with the movement. There will be live performances, kids’ activities, sustainability talks, and interactive displays by some of our partner organizations at Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall, while outdoor events like green-vehicle runway exhibitions, local business booths and art displays by environmental organizations will take place in Union Square. All of the events are free and open to the public.
Urban Greenwalk is a non-profit organization supporting actionable green initiatives. For Earth Week (April 20-April 28), the group is hosting a special event along Bleecker Street’s retail corridor featuring special events and promotions, as well as eco-education. The first happening of its kind, the open air videowalk brings together retailers, green organizations and community. The event will include store promotions by venues along Bleecker Street, like Marc Jacobs, Book Marc, Jack Spade, Bond No. 9, Mulberry and Ralph Lauren.
