Violence Increases In Suffolk County

HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (WCBS 880/CBS 2) -- A grandmother stood in shock outside her Long Island home after learning her two grandchildren were shot outside the apartment building Wednesday morning.

The victims were Ariel Perez, 21, and Bonnie McCoy, 23. According to police, they were sitting on the front stoop of the Huntington Station apartment building when a man approached them and opened fire at 2 a.m.

There is now a trail of blood outside the Church St. apartment, where Perez was shot several times and McCoy once.

"I got to go, I got to get away from here," said the grandmother, who was too afraid to give her name. "Constantly, that is all you hear is gun shots and all of that."

So far nine people have been shot or stabbed – one person murdered – in Huntington Station in the past three months.

The injuries to the victims were non-life threatening. They were taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment.
