Brothers Sentenced For Putting Spikes On NJ Roads

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- Two brothers who admitted placing tire spikes on the pavement of southern New Jersey highways have been sentenced to probation.

Michael and Justin Hinrichsen also must each perform 40 hours of community service and pay $500 in restitution under the sentences imposed Friday. They also must testify, if necessary, against two other men charged in the case.

The Buena Vista Township men pleaded guilty in June to charges of conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, theft of property and risking widespread damage. Prosecutors say they stole road signs and bent the sign legs upright to make spikes.

About a dozen vehicles -- including a state police cruiser -- were damaged by the devices, which were mostly placed in Estell Manor and Buena Vista, about 25 miles west of Atlantic City.
