Driver Charged In Fatal Long Island Expressway Crash

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (CBS 2/AP) -- The driver in a fatal wrong-way crash has been charged with a DWI.

Police say a driver went the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway, smashed his minivan into a guard rail and killed a passenger riding with him.

The 27-year-old driver has been arrested after the crash shortly before 5 a.m. Monday. The charges haven't yet been released, but Nassau County police say alcohol may have been a factor.

The wreck killed 28-year-old Mauricio Visoso-Ornelas of Queens. No telephone number for his family could be found.

Police say the driver was heading west in the eastbound carpool lane in Plainview. The eastbound lanes were closed at Exit 44 for more than eight hours.
