'Fashion's Night Out' Kicks Off At Lincoln Center

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- Hundreds of guests gathered on the Upper West Side Tuesday night for the biggest and boldest public fashion show ever staged in New York City.

It was a fashion spectacle unlike anything anyone has ever seen. 170 of the world's top models including Gisele Bundchen and Naomi Campbell showcased this fall's hottest trends in the middle of Lincoln Center -- fashion week's new home, CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez reported.

"We really wanted to bring fashion to the customer in the best way that we possibly could. Fashion week is very much for the industry and for the insiders and this was really to open up fashion to everybody," Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Magazine said.

Celebrities like Julianne Moore, Serena Williams, and Lauren Hutton came to see The Show -- a kickoff to Fashion's Night Out.

Wintour enlisted the industry's elite designers including Dianne von Furstenburg, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Wang, Donna Karan and many more to contribute pieces from their collections.

Autumn's styles ranged from slick rocker chic to down to earth heavy textured plaids to classic jazz throw backs and layered furs and shearling.

This year also marked the first time the public didn't have to wait to get the designs at the show.

"The clothes tonight you can go in the shops and buy now," designer Dianne von Furstenburg said.

"I believe customers should be seeing the clothes in season," designer Donna Karan said.

While some clothes may be a little hair raising, chances are people can find something to suit their style.
