Farm Recalls Milk Sold In Tri-State Area

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBS 2/1010 WINS/AP) -- This consumer alert may affect your morning routine.

A New York farm is voluntarily recalling 8,000 gallons of milk because of improper pasteurization – so take a minute to check before adding that milk to your cereal or coffee.

The recall includes milk sold at stores in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

Recalled products have a sell-by date of Sept. 24 and were sold under the brand names Midland Farms, Corrado's Milk, Jersey Dairy Farms and Trade Fair Premium.

Inspectors found failed pasteurization equipment at the Midlands Farm plant near Albany on Sept. 7. The company agreed to the voluntary recall the product as a precaution against bacterial contaminants like listeria and salmonella. There have been no reports of illness as of Thursday.

Consumers should look for the plant code 36-1661 and a Sept. 24 date code.

"If for whatever reason consumers have this in their refrigerator, it is important for them to either discard the product or take it back to the place of purchase," Jessica Ziehm, spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture, said.

Consumers with questions may contact Midland Farms directly at 518-436-7038.
