Unofficial partial returns have Rice leading on Long Island, Buffalo and several upstate counties, state Sen. Eric Schneiderman leading in most of New York City, retired trial attorney Sean Coffey ahead in several other counties and former insurance superintendent Eric Dinallo is also getting votes.

NY1 is reporting that candidate Assemblyman Richard Brodsky has conceded.

The office, with some 700 lawyers, defends the state in lawsuits, protects consumers, files civil suits, monitors charities and sometimes conducts investigations and prosecutions.

The winner faces Republican prosecutor Dan Donovan of Staten Island.
