RESCUE CHOCOLATE: Human Treats Help Homeless Animals

Animal lovers with a sweet tooth rejoice! A new Brooklyn based company called "Rescue Chocolate" (www.rescuechocolate.com) is serving up chocolate treats for humans, that benefit shelter animals.

Rescue Chocolate founder Sarah Gross says the company was inspired by her rescued pit bull Mocha. "I was walking her in the park one morning, after having had a breakfast of chocolate", says Gross, "and I had the idea, why don't I put my love of chocolate with my love of dogs and animal rescue together, so Rescue Chocolate was born". According to Gross, the company donates the net profits from every purchase to animal rescue organizations around the country, including the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti, In Defense of Animals, Animal Care & Control of New York, and the Elmsford Animal Shelter.

Some shelters benefit by selling the chocolates directly, among them, BARC, the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition at 253 Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg.
