My Morning Jacket On 'Letterman' Webcast Oct. 12

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Kentucky-born band My Morning Jacket will take over the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City for a Live on Letterman performance that will drench the famous venue in the group's trademark echoing choruses, thrashing and tapping guitars and driving beats. The show will be webcast online via CBS.com on Oct. 12, beginning at 8 p. ET (5 p.m. PT).

Over the years, critics have compared My Morning Jacket to a vast array of artists including the Flaming Lips, Neil Young, The Band, The Allman Brothers, Prince, and even The Beach Boys. But now, 12 years and five albums into their career with performances at high-profile venues like Madison Square Garden and festivals such as Coachella and Bonnaroo, they truly own their own sound.

Charismatic singer-songwriter Jim James fills out the band's current lineup of bassist Tom Blankenship, drummer Patrick Hallahan, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Carl Broemel, and keyboardist Bo Koster. Performing on stage isn't the only place the group shines; the creativity James and crew bring to their recordings is equally intense. In one example, the guys recorded their 2003 album It Still Moves in an empty grain silo to capture the natural reverb of James' voice. They recently began recording what will be their sixth studio album (to be released sometime in 2011) in an old church in Louisville.

In 2008, My Morning Jacket graced the covers of Spin and Rolling Stone, performed a staggering four-hour set at Bonnaroo, and appeared on Saturday Night Live to debut tracks from Evil Urges, an album that wound up on an impressive number of album-of-the-year lists.
