2 More Suspects Charged In Bronx Anti-Gay Beatings

NEW YORK (AP) -- Two men accused of participating in anti-gay beatings in New York City have been arraigned on hate crime charges.

Ruddy Vargas-Perez and Jose Dominguez did not enter pleas during their appearance Tuesday night in the Bronx Criminal Court.

Prosecutors say Vargas-Perez faces charges including robbery, gang assault and unlawful imprisonment as hate crimes. He's being held on $25,000 bond or cash bail. His attorney says his client was innocent of the charges.

Dominguez faces charges of gang assault, sexual abuse and unlawful imprisonment as hate crimes. He was held without bail. His attorney's name was not immediately available.

Dominguez, the 10th suspect in the case, surrendered early Tuesday. Vargas-Perez was arrested Monday.

Authorities believe the attacks were touched off because gang members thought a recruit was gay.
