Midwood Crash Victim's Mother Defends Teen Driver

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Brooklyn mother has come forward to defend the teenage driver who killed her 13-year-old daughter in Midwood earlier this month.

Pam Erdan says Eric Hakimisefat, 16, is devastated by the Oct. 3 tragedy and sat with the Orthodox Jewish family every day of shiva.

Sarah Erdan was riding in the backseat of the Honda Odyssey when Hakimisefat lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a telephone pole, a parked car and the porch of a home.

Police said Hakimisefat was driving at least 63 mph at the time of the accident.

Erdan believes pointing fingers doesn't help or heal.

"We embrace Eric and his family's pain and suffering as part of our own as we look to heal together in recovering and forging ahead with our lives," Erdan said.

Hakimisefat has been charged with criminally negligent homicide, driving without a license and speeding.
