Police Search For S.I. Man In Parents' Murder

NEW YORK (CBS 2/WCBS 880/ 1010 WINS) - At about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Annadale section of Staten Island, police found the bodies of 61-year-old Arthur Bellucci and his wife, 56-year-old Marion Bellucci. They had been stabbed to death.

The man police want to talk to, as CBS 2's Pablo Guzman reports, is the couple's 30-year-old son, Eric.

Police believe Eric Bellucci took an El Al flight to Israel from Newark Liberty International Airport that landed about 1 a.m. our time.

"He did take a flight to Tel Aviv. He's in Israel now, and we are working with Israeli authorities," said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Care Mates is a home health care agency with the family business. Mrs. Belluci was a registered nurse. Her daughter and son were principles in the company also.

1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reports the couple's 25-year-old daughter, Vanessa, had recently moved out of the family home because she feared her brother.

Police sources said because of threats from her brother, a few months ago Vanessa went to live with her mother's sister and her uncle.

Understandably, a man at that address did not want to say much.

"We have no comment at this time. It's a harrowing experience. It happened just fairly recently. So just let us get through it, please?" the family member said.

However, a man who knew the family 30 years said it has been a long battle brought on by the son's mental schizophrenia that led to this.

"Artie was very protective of his family as any father would be, and Artie just recently got rid of whatever rifles were in the house," he said.

Friends said Eric was a brilliant, but after he turned 18 something happened.

"I remember him being one of the most handsomest young men I've ever seen in my life. You should say a prayer for them. You know I don't think he did this on purpose. I would imagine if you're sick then maybe you don't know what you're doing, you know you don't expect your children to hurt you like this," Resident Sally Robusto said.

"If that's the case," she added.

Because Eric Bellucci is not a Jewish foreign national, nor is he believed to be an Israeli citizen, Israel's laws protecting Jews against extradition would not apply to him.

If he's captured, he will be turned over to NYPD detectives already in Israel.
