Police: N.Y. Man Misled Cops About Missing Girl

GLENVILLE, N.Y. (AP) -- Police in upstate New York say a man who helped search for a missing girl actually helped her run away.

The Times Union newspaper reported John Kwiatkowski of Amsterdam, N.Y. was arrested Saturday and charged with obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor. Police in Glenville, N.Y. said the charge was related to an

Amber alert issued last week for a missing girl.

Police said Kwiatkowski, 36, helped hand out fliers for the missing child. But police said he actually provided the girl with transportation, clothes, money and a place to stay at a relative's home in Saratoga County.

Police located the girl after she had been missing for four days.

Kwiatkowski is due in court on Tuesday.

His phone number was unlisted, and no information about an attorney was available.
