Jury Deliberates Teen's Fate in Radio Newsman's Murder Trial

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Brooklyn jury is weighing the fate of a New York City teenager accused of killing a radio newsman he met through Craigslist.

The state Supreme Court jury began deliberating Tuesday at the trial of 18-year-old John Katehis.

Police found George Weber's body in March 2009 on his bedroom floor. Investigators said he'd been stabbed about 50 times.

Prosecutors said Weber responded to Katehis' Craigslist ad offering sex for money.

Katehis' lawyer said Weber preyed on an underage, money-desperate youth. Katehis was 16 at the time. The defense says Katehis defended himself during a struggle after Weber brandished a knife.

Weber had been working as a freelancer for ABC News Radio. He also had worked at WABC in New York, and at stations in California, Colorado and Pennsylvania.
