L.I. Residents Vote Down Plan To Close Schools
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBS 2) -- Voters in one Long Island town have overwhelmingly rejected a plan to shut down several elementary schools.
The bond proposal would have closed three schools in the Mineola district: Meadow Drive in Albertson, Hampton Street in Mineola, and Cross Street in Williston Park.
The District blamed the proposal on declining enrollment and higher costs.
The emotional issues involved sent voters to the polls in droves. They voted against it by a nearly five to one majority.
