Man, Woman Found Shot Dead In Queens

QUEENS, N.Y. (CBS 2/1010 WINS) -- A double murder has stunned a quiet, working-class neighborhood in Queens.

A man and woman were found shot to death in their car – and the gunman may have been caught on tape, reports CBS 2's Magee Hickey.

The grisly discovery was made just after 10 a.m. Thursday. Investigators on the scene took pictures of the burgundy Chevy and searched for clues to find the gunman who had shot a male and female in the back of the head.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene; the car's headlights were still on, and the engine was still running.

"The registered owner of the car has the same last name as the male in the vehicle. They are both shot in the head," NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

Stephen Chee was trying to park his car when a passerby told him to look inside the vehicle and call police.

"I went to see. I saw they were dead, shot dead with bullet hole in the back," Chee said. "The lady had a lot of hair; I couldn't see how she died. I think both of them are Caucasians; I called 911."

The parked Chevy bordered the edge of Linden Hill Methodist Cemetery. Police looked into the possibility the gunman escaped into the cemetery, and also looked at surveillance video from homes on the block.

Word leaked out that one of the victims was the longtime super of a building on nearby Stockholm Street. As the victim's sister tried to find out what happened, some neighbors said the super ran with a tough crowd and that he'd had three run-ins with police in the last year.

Other neighbors talked of a kind, friendly man.

"I've known him for many years, because I've been living around here for about 15 years," neighbor Bianca Arroyo said

"I'm in shock over this," neighbor Steve Arroyo said.

Police are waiting to notify all relatives before making the identity of the two shooting victims public.
