People flock to Coney Island to escape the concrete jungle.

When they get there in the future, they just might find a sidewalk instead of a boardwalk.

New York City is going to test less expensive, more durable concrete in place of wooden beams.

It's generating more screams than the Cyclone.

"I walk on concrete all day long. I need a break from it. Don't change. Keep it the way it is. some things are just meant to stay the same," one man told WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams.

Another man said, "I think it takes away from some of the atmosphere, you know. You know, you don't get the same 'clack.' It doesn't make the same sound against the feet."

"I'm not really for it.... I like the old way," said a boardwalk purist.

A concrete walkway will be tested for five blocks from Coney Island Avenue to Brighton 15th. The amusement area will keep its old-style wooden boardwalk.
