Jesus Statue Stolen From Jersey City Church Returned

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP/CBS 2) -- A religious statue stolen from a Jersey City church has been returned.

The Jersey Journal reported a bodega owner said a man came into her store and tried to sell the "Divino Nino'' statue of the boy Jesus on Wednesday. When she returned with some money, the man was gone.

The statue disappeared from Jersey City's St. Aloysius Church over the weekend.

The Rev. Joseph D'Amico says the "Divino Nino'' is intended to foster devotion to supporting needy children around the world.
