Home Care Aid Convicted Of Abusing Elderly Woman

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- Surveillance video helps convict a home health aide accused of abusing an elderly woman in Brooklyn.

Elizabeth Peters, 53, was found guilty of brutalizing an 86-year-old woman in her care.

Surveillance video shows the victim who suffers from dementia and Alzheimer's flailing helplessly on the floor for more than an hour while the caregiver watched TV.

Prosecutors said Peters then dragged the woman by her ankles. "After that she grabbed her two more times by her arm, she subjected her to a risk, an unacceptable risk," said David Kim, Brooklyn Assistant DA.

The victim is now being cared for in a nursing home.

Peters faces up to a year in prison when she's sentenced in January.
